What not to Do…

Neck painCombine:

  1. Fun and strenuous exercise for several hours at the end of a long day
  2. Sleeping on a sofa
  3. Sitting for hours in an “ergonomically correct” position the next day

Thanksgiving Day Prep Report #1: Ambiance

Posted by Brett Veenstra

This Thanksgiving is going to be great! Each side of our families are letting us host the party at our house. All in all, that should mean we’re feeding between 40 - 50 people that Thursday!

We’re already in full-swing P&P (preparation and planning). Thus far, the “ambiance” is coming along quite well.

We’ve completely repainted the powder room downstairs (which someday will cause me to create another post).

HDReady Thanksgiving Day Prep Report #1: AmbianceMore importantly for us Guys::: The HD signal is bright and beautiful with the help of a RadioShack ampilified directional receiver. Sweetnaws. I just need to shimmy up to the attic and mount it to a truss. And if you’ve seen me, you know I’m not the size for a good shimmy!

Concerto

K and I went to a concert last night and were blown away. Now, we’re not the “concert-going” folk. In fact, our last concert of this magnitude was over 7 years ago. This time it was a Jars of Clay + Third Day + Michael W. Smith gig. We didn’t stay to see MWS… we cared more about getting some ice cream and turning off the clock on the sitter.

guysstand ConcertoWell, not really. After Third Day’s turn we knew there was NO WAY Smitty could compete so rather than leaving on a low note, we left on the total high note. I haven’t really liked the Third Day albums that were not worship style, but if you get a chance to see Third Day live, drop everything and go! Next one is Kalamazoo Oct 12 or Saginaw, MI on Oct 13. They’ll have David Crowder Band along then.

As for Jars, they kicked things off. Or rather, then started the noise: I was immediately reminded of the last concert I was at (they opened then too). I forgot that they suck live. I absolutely love the layers of sound they wrap into their songs on albums, and they definitely bring new spins on their songs up on stage. It’s just that if had caught them yawning on stage, it wouldn’t have suprised me. Maybe “energy” is not their thing, but Dan’s voice didn’t seem to even be warmed up, and that took about 5 songs. Grrr… I love these guys for their art, their performance wreaked.

More crap, faster life…

Posted by Brett Veenstra

Seems like I have to keep reminding my dumb self.

The more crap we get, the faster life seems to go. I wanna spend time with the crap, not the fam. I think about more crap to go with the crap I just got. I tend to forget about the old crap and let it rot and get upset if the new crap gets busted.

We’ve got crap that plays in the crap player, on the crap screen. We’ve got crap to listen to crap while thinking about more crap.

Often times, I’ll pretend I have no worries about money just to go online and load up a shopping cart configured with crap, just because the crap I have is acting crappy (no M$ jokes Rock).

I bet we could get rid of 50% of our crap and life would be much slower and I’d actually spend good time with the kids… heh, and the 20 other things that need doing around the house would get done.
